Feyenoord sack Slot's successor Priske ahead of Champions League clash with AC Milan
A run of inconsistent results across all competitions have seen Feyenoord part ways with Brian Priske after just 33 games in charge.
Feyenoord have sacked manager Brian Priske just two days before their Champions League play-off first leg clash with AC Milan.
Priske signed a three-year contract last June after replacing Arne Slot, who left to take charge of Liverpool, but has been under pressure in recent weeks.
Feyenoord find themselves fifth in the Eredivisie table, 12 points behind leaders Ajax, while also seeing their KNVB Cup defence come to an end against PSV Eindhoven last week.
Saturday's 3-0 victory over Sparta Rotterdam was their first win in five games and Priske's 18th success across all competitions, but ultimately, that wasn't enough.
The Dane ends his time with the club with a win percentage of 53.13% from his 33 matches in charge (D7 L8), the second-worst record of his managerial career (Royal Antwerp - 44.9%).
"The club cites the inconsistent results and a lack of chemistry as the main reasons," a Feyenoord statement said.
"Although Feyenoord achieved some impressive results with Brian, especially in the Champions League, the first team's performance has been far too inconsistent in recent months, and unfortunately, we see too little structural progress."
Feyenoord finished 19th in the new 36-team Champions League table, sealing their place in the knockout stages of the competition with a 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in their penultimate league fixture.
However, they were thrashed 6-1 by Lille in their final game of the first phase, dropping eight places to set up a clash with Sergio Conceicao's Milan on Wednesday.
It will be just the third meeting between the two sides in European competition, with the pair winning one match each during their two-legged European Cup round of last 16 clash during the 1969-70 season.
Feyenoord have lost just one of their 11 home games in major European competition against sides from Italy (W6 D4), a 1-2 defeat against Roma in February 2015 in the Europa League.
The Eredivisie outfit are expected to announce who will be placed in interim charge for the tie at Stadion Feijenoord shortly.
