Guardiola Celebrates Mourinho’s Move With His Goalkeeper to Humiliate Real Madrid
Pep Guardiola Praises Mourinho’s Goalkeeper Move That Knocked Out Real Madrid
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola revealed that his team watched the final moments of Benfica vs. Real Madrid from the locker room and praised José Mourinho’s brilliance for sending goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin forward in the last play of the match.
Trubin’s stoppage-time goal secured Benfica’s spot in the Champions League playoff, edging out Olympique de Marseille and eliminating the French side after their 4-2 victory over the Spaniards.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Galatasaray confirmed the Sky Blues’ place in the Round of 16.
“We were watching the end of the match in the locker room and didn’t know Benfica needed a fourth goal. When we saw the goalkeeper go up, we said, ‘Why? Stay in goal, if Madrid scores we’re out.’ But it turned out to be a brilliant move by José,” Guardiola said.
Now, City could face Real Madrid again in the Round of 16, if Álvaro Arbeloa’s team advances from the playoffs and the draw works out.
