Naples Out of the Champions League, Conte Forms a New Pattern
The Italian coach suffered another defeat that knocked him out of the Champions League and prevented him from qualifying for the competition through the playoffs
Napoli eliminated from the Champions League, and Antonio Conte suffers once again
The Italian coach of the Neapolitan team was knocked out of Europe’s top competition on Wednesday after losing 3-2 to Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea at home at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. This defeat was crucial in knocking Napoli out of the Champions League qualification zone for the next stage; there won’t be any Champions League trophy for the Neapolitans this year.
The aftermath
The reigning Serie A champion, under the guidance of Antonio Conte, was left longing to continue competing in the UEFA Champions League. Napoli finished 30th after losing to Chelsea, adding to Conte’s list of defeats.
Conte hasn’t been able to lead any Italian team to the second phase of this European competition; Diego Armando Maradona’s legendary team becomes yet another addition to this list, which includes Juventus, Inter, and now Napoli.
However, with Inter, he reached the UEFA Europa League final in the 2019–2020 season, where they lost 3–0 to Sevilla.

The new trend
A pattern is emerging with Antonio Conte’s latest Champions League failure: he hasn’t been able to lead any Italian team to glory or even advance to the next round. Will he be able to break this streak next season, either at the helm of Napoli or by leaving Italian football to end this drought?
