Pep Guardiola sends Haaland warning ahead of Manchester City vs Real Madrid in Champions League
The physical condition of Erling Haaland has raised concerns ahead of the Manchester City vs Real Madrid clash in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
The physical condition of Erling Haaland has raised concerns ahead of the Manchester City vs Real Madrid clash in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
With Kylian Mbappé’s injury issues already dominating the headlines, attention turned to Haaland after the Norwegian striker missed Manchester City’s match against Leeds.
That situation prompted Pep Guardiola to address the striker’s fitness before the crucial European showdown.
Guardiola’s warning before facing Real Madrid
Ahead of the match against Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola spoke about the Norwegian forward’s condition during a critical moment of the season.
“He feels much better, but we didn’t train yesterday. We will train today and then decide if he plays, the same with O’Reilly,” the Spanish manager said before naming the lineup.
Guardiola’s comments suggest the club will make a last-minute decision regarding Haaland’s availability.

Haaland’s record against Real Madrid
The Manchester City striker has played six matches against Real Madrid, with a record of two wins, two draws and two defeats.
In those games, Haaland scored three goals and provided one assist against the Spanish giants.
For this Champions League series, the expected clash with Kylian Mbappé will not take place due to the French forward’s knee issues, although Haaland is still expected to be a key figure in City’s attack.
Guardiola criticizes the schedule
The Manchester City coach also complained about the tight schedule ahead of the clash with Real Madrid.
Guardiola pointed to the timing of the match against Newcastle United in the FA Cup, saying it would impact his team’s recovery time.
“It’s different if you arrive in Manchester at 7 or 8 in the evening than at 1 or 2 in the morning,” Guardiola explained.
“I know all teams play at three, but we play at eight. These details make the difference. We will have less recovery and then we must go to Madrid.”
