PSG Possible Lineup Against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League

  • Luis Enrique is preparing a star-studded XI as PSG begin their European title defense and look to put a difficult domestic start behind them.

PSG Begin Their Title Defense

Paris Saint-Germain begin their 2026-27 UEFA Champions League campaign on Wednesday when they host Slovan Bratislava at the Parc des Princes. Luis Enrique’s side return to the competition as defending champions and will be expected to make a statement against one of the league phase’s more modest opponents.

PSG’s current form, however, is far from ideal. The Parisians are still searching for their first Ligue 1 victory and have struggled to impose themselves during the opening weeks of the season. Draws against Rennes and Lille, along with defeats to Lens and Monaco, have raised some early concerns around the European champions.

The Champions League therefore provides the perfect opportunity to regain confidence. The gap in quality between the two squads is considerable, and anything other than a PSG victory at home would be a major surprise.

Dembélé Set to Lead the Attack Again

Ousmane Dembélé is expected to lead the Parisian attack once again. The reigning Ballon d’Or winner remains one of the most important players in Luis Enrique’s project and will be tasked with breaking down what is likely to be a compact Slovan defensive structure.

Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are expected to complete an attacking trio packed with pace, technical quality and one-on-one ability. Against a Slovan side likely to defend with plenty of players around its own penalty area, the movement of PSG’s front three could be crucial to creating space.

The matchup also provides PSG with an opportunity to rediscover their attacking efficiency. After struggling to turn performances into positive results domestically, Luis Enrique could give his forwards the freedom to attack aggressively and look to take control from the opening minutes.

Luis Enrique Expected to Keep the Champions’ Core Intact

There should be few surprises in midfield. João Neves, Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz are expected to form the three-man unit once again, providing PSG with possession, pressing intensity and the ability to contribute in the final third.

At the back, Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes should occupy the full-back positions, with Marquinhos and Willian Pacho forming the central defensive partnership. Matvey Safonov is expected to start in goal.

Everything suggests Luis Enrique will avoid major experimentation in the European opener. PSG need to rediscover their confidence, and the manager could turn to a lineup very close to his strongest XI as the reigning champions look to begin their title defense with a convincing victory.

PSG Possible Lineup vs. Slovan Bratislava

Luis Enrique could use a 4-3-3 formation for PSG’s Champions League opener:

  • Goalkeeper: Matvey Safonov
  • Defenders: Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Nuno Mendes
  • Midfielders: João Neves, Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz
  • Forwards: Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
