Alarm in Germany: Antonio Rüdiger Injured While Celebrating
The defender ended up with muscle problems after running to celebrate Füllkrug's 92nd-minute goal. Germany might lose a key player in defense.
Antonio Rüdiger, Germany's defender, ended the match against Switzerland with muscle problems, raising alarm within his team as they await the medical test results for the Real Madrid player, who could be a key loss in central defense.
Rüdiger was injured during the celebration of Niclas Füllkrug's goal, which equalized the match in the 92nd minute and secured Germany's top spot in Group A. The German defender was one of the first to reach his teammate to celebrate the goal, and after the rest of the players piled on top of them, he remained on the ground. At the end of the match, he kept touching his right thigh, a clear sign of muscle issues.
His coach, Julian Nagelsmann, expressed concern for one of his starting center-backs in a press conference: "He finished the match with a small issue in his thigh. I hope it's nothing serious. We'll see. It could be quite problematic," he said.
The reality is that Germany already has a confirmed significant absence for the round of 16 clash, also affecting central defense. Jonathan Tah will miss the match due to suspension after receiving his second yellow card, and Rüdiger could join him as the second absence in Germany's defense. In case of this, Nico Schlotterbeck, Robin Koch, and Waldemar Anton are already prepared to replace Nagelsmann's two starting defenders.
