Kylian Mbappé: "I Thought the Ballon d'Or Would Go to Vinícius"
Kylian Mbappé, forward for Real Madrid, revealed in an interview with Le Parisien that he expected his teammate Vinícius Júnior to win the Ballon d'Or. He also spoke about his relationship with Didier Deschamps.
The French striker, discussing both his national team and Real Madrid, expressed his surprise at the winner: Rodri Hernández. "Ballon d'Or? What is a Ballon d'Or? Do you consider Rodri a Ballon d'Or winner?" he asked the journalist. "I thought it would go to Vinícius, but in the end, it was Rodri. If you had told me that three months ago, I would have thought you were crazy," he added.
His Relationship with Deschamps
Regarding Didier Deschamps, he acknowledged they’ve had disagreements, but nothing that has damaged their relationship: "It’s no secret, just differences that don’t need to be made public. In any job, you have disagreements with colleagues, but that doesn’t mean you don’t respect them. If there had been a real rift, I would never have answered his calls."
Griezmann, Zidane, and the Future of France
He also spoke about Antoine Griezmann, who recently announced his retirement from the French national team. Mbappé admitted he knew about the decision beforehand and emphasized his close bond with the Atlético de Madrid star. "I wasn’t surprised when he announced it. He explained his reasons to me, and I completely understood," he said.
Finally, when asked about Zinedine Zidane potentially replacing Deschamps as France’s head coach, he remained cautious: "It's Zidane, but that’s a decision for Philippe Diallo. Everyone is talking about him, but it’s not my place to comment."
