Czechia and England Need to Respond in Prague

Czechia hosts England this Tuesday, September 29, at Fortuna Arena in Prague on Matchday 2 of the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League. Both national teams enter the match needing to bounce back after beginning their campaigns without picking up any points.

According to information from MARCA, Czechia suffered a 2-1 defeat against Croatia in its opener, while England fell 3-2 to Spain at Wembley. The Three Lions even managed to take the lead during the match but were unable to hold on to the result.

The team coached by Thomas Tuchel will look for its first victory of the tournament with a squad featuring stars such as Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon. On the other side, Santi Denia will try to make home-field advantage count as the Czech side also looks to get its first points on the board.

Prague Has Been a Difficult Venue for England

Although England has dominated the recent head-to-head record, visiting Czechia has not always been easy. The Three Lions have lost only one of their last nine meetings against the Czechs, recording six wins and two draws during that span.

However, Czechia won both competitive matches in which it hosted the English. Both ended 2-1, first during qualifying for Euro 1976 and later in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

The most recent meeting between the two national teams came at Euro 2020. On that occasion, England earned a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Raheem Sterling.

First Points at Stake in the Group

With Spain and Croatia also part of the group, starting the Nations League with two defeats could quickly complicate either team's ambitions.

England will look to take advantage of the attacking quality of Kane, Bellingham and Saka, while Czechia will have options such as Adam Hložek, Pavel Šulc and Vladimír Coufal as it looks to make the most of playing at home.
