Ancelotti Leaves Out Neymar and Rodrygo in Controversial First Brazil Call-Up
Carlo Ancelotti has officially taken charge of Brazil, and his first squad announcement has already sparked major headlines. In a bold and unexpected move, the Italian coach excluded Neymar Jr. and Rodrygo Goes from his first Brazil call-up, while retaining trusted figures like Vinícius Jr. and Casemiro.
“The list includes many surprises because several players are injured or still recovering,” Ancelotti explained, referencing Neymar’s fitness issues and the absence of Endrick.
Surprise Omissions, Comebacks, and Fresh Faces
One of the biggest comebacks is that of Richarlison, who returns after two years away from the national team. Casemiro, who also had been sidelined, is back in the fold as well.
Other notable inclusions are:
- Raphinha , recently crowned LaLiga champion with Barcelona.
- Antony , currently enjoying a resurgence with Real Betis.
- Estêvão , Palmeiras’ teenage sensation already signed by Chelsea, who retains his spot after recent appearances.
No Neymar, No Rodrygo
The absence of Neymar, who is still recovering from a serious injury, was somewhat expected. However, leaving out Rodrygo — who wasn’t injured — came as a shock. Reports suggest that the decision was mutual, with both parties agreeing that the forward needs a physical and mental break following a challenging season at Real Madrid.
Still, this marks a major shift under Ancelotti, who clearly isn’t afraid to make tough choices early in his tenure.
