Dorival Júnior After Beating Colombia: “No Relief, Only Full Focus on Argentina”
Brazil head coach Dorival Júnior praised his team’s 2-1 victory over Colombia in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers, calling it a “very important” step towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but made it clear that there is no room for complacency ahead of the crucial clash with Argentina.
“No one is satisfied or relieved. The concern is constant and will remain until the final moment,” Dorival said from the Mané Garrincha Stadium, where goals from Vinícius Júnior and Raphinha (from the penalty spot) secured three vital points for Brazil.
All Eyes on the South American Superclásico
With the win, Brazil moved up to second place in the standings with 21 points, but Dorival remained laser-focused on Tuesday’s highly anticipated showdown against Argentina in Buenos Aires.
“There’s no relief. What we must do is stay concentrated and aim for the next result. We’ll play a great match regardless of the injuries we may have—perhaps three or four,” he warned.
Although Argentina will be without Lionel Messi and Lautaro Martínez, Dorival emphasized that facing the reigning world champions is always a formidable challenge.
“They are one of the toughest opponents. Their midfield is skilled, intense, and well-balanced. We will have to compete at the highest level.”
A Team in Progress
Dorival also highlighted the team’s ongoing development throughout the qualifiers.
“We’re not yet where we want to be, but the improvement is evident with each matchday.”
He praised his players for their collective effort and the hard-fought victory against a resilient Colombian side.
“It was a tough win that required full commitment. That must be valued.”
With this result, Brazil leapfrogs Colombia in the standings and takes a step closer to securing a place at the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
