Infantino to Trump: "The United States Can Win the 2026 World Cup"
FIFA President Gianni Infantino met with former U.S. President Donald Trump this Friday at the Oval Office to discuss the organization of the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States. During their conversation, Trump asked if the U.S. has a chance to win the tournament, to which Infantino responded optimistically.
Is the U.S. a Title Contender for 2026?
During the discussion, Trump inquired about the favorites to win the 2026 World Cup.
"Argentina, Brazil, England, Germany, Spain," replied Infantino.
Not satisfied, Trump pressed further:
"Can the United States win?"
Infantino, confident in the nation's potential, responded:
"The United States can win, with the support of the fans. Their players are in some of the best teams in the world."
Trump, visibly excited, responded:
"So there’s a chance?"
"Absolutely, there’s a chance," reaffirmed Infantino.
The FIFA president highlighted that the U.S. team, led by Christian Pulisic and a group of talented players competing in top European clubs, has the potential to surprise in 2026.
A Super Bowl-Style Halftime Show for the 2026 Final
Beyond discussing the U.S. team’s competitiveness, Infantino also revealed FIFA’s plans to introduce a halftime show for the 2026 World Cup final, inspired by the Super Bowl’s iconic performance.
"We have to make it 20 times bigger and better," Infantino stated.
Trump, amused by the idea, added:
"I think it will be even better."
With a growing national team and a historic event set to break viewership records, the United States is preparing to be a major protagonist both on and off the field in the 2026 World Cup.
