Liverpool wins pair of friendlies against Athletic Club
Liverpool put on two attacking exhibitions for Reds fans at Anfield with 4-1 and 3-2 wins over LaLiga side Athletic Club in a pre-season double-header.
The first match featured many second-choice players for both sides, with a Liverpool team consisting of mainly back-up players and young stars dominating. Youth products Rio Ngumoha and Ben Doak were the stars, while want-away duo Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott both found the net. Lone first-team participant Alexis Mac Allister stood out for the Reds.
Shortly after, the teams deployed most of their starters for the second match, from which Liverpool emerged victorious again. Mohamed Salah opened the scoring, before a Cody Gakpo brace - the Dutch star also found the net for Athletic - sealed a 3-2 win.
