Muller played his final home game for Bayern, which clinched the Bundesliga title last week, as it beat Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 in its last home game of the season.

Michael Olise set up Harry Kane for his 25th Bundesliga goal of the season before prodding the ball home in the 90th minute to seal a comfortable win for Vincent Kompany's side.

But the day belonged to Muller, who started in an attacking midfield role and was given a rapturous ovation when withdrawn for Serge Gnabry in the 84th minute.

Muller first joined Bayern aged 10 and has helped them to 13 Bundesliga titles, six DFB-Pokal wins, eight DFL-Supercups and two UEFA Champions Leagues since his 2008 senior debut.

Bayern was presented with the Bundesliga trophy after the game, while supporters behind one goal displayed a giant banner bearing Muller's name and the words: "For 25 years, everything for our colours!"

Amid the celebrations, Muller took a microphone to address the crowd, saying: "I loved being a modern gladiator.

"But I am not sad. I look forward to what is ahead even though it won't be half as good.

"We all knew this moment would come. For many, including myself, it is a tough moment but a beautiful one too. The appreciation you gave me is unique."

Muller, who has been tipped to move to Major League Soccer in the United States after Bayern opted against renewing his contract , made his 502nd Bundesliga appearance here.

Last month, Muller became just the 13th player to make 500 Bundesliga appearances and the fourth to do so with all of his outings coming for a single club.
