Schick salvages dramatic draw for Leverkusen
Patrik Schick came off the bench to find the net and salvage a late 2-2 draw for Bayer Leverkusen against Augsburg at WWK Arena.
Schick drew Leverkusen level in the 89th minute after Michael Gregoritsch's superb brace helped the hosts cancel out Christian Kofane's 18th-minute opener.
After skewing a header wide of the target after just four minutes, Kofane made swift amends as he neatly collected Edmond Tapsoba's throughball and slid a tidy finish past Finn Dahmen and into the bottom-right corner.
Kofane came close to adding a second moments later, but the striker failed to guide his header on target after a neat combination with Aleix Garcia.
Miguel Gutierrez, who was fresh off a stellar performance against Union Berlin, forced Dahmen into another save, while Ibrahim Maza failed to make it count after being teed up in the box by a clever headed pass from Equi Fernandez.
After a dominant first half, Leverkusen was stunned when Gregoritsch levelled the scores and then put Augsburg in front within 10 minutes of the restart.
The Austrian first drilled past Mark Flekken with ease in the 50th minute after being sent through by Hennes Behrens, before making it a brace with a pinpoint header into the top-left corner just five minutes later.
Maza thought he had restored parity on the hour mark after combining well with Moussa Diaby, but the goal was disallowed for offside after a video assistant referee (VAR) review.
A frantic final 30 minutes ensued as Leverkusen pushed hard for a leveller, with Gutierrez, Maza, Diaby and Martin Terrier seeing efforts blocked by a resilient Augsburg defence.
Respite for the Werkself finally arrived in the 89th minute as Schick cushioned Malik Tillman's pass inside the box and drilled a powerful low finish into the bottom left corner to rescue a point.
