Socceroos midfielder Okon-Engstler joins FC Koln
Bundesliga club FC Koln anounced the signing of Australia midfielder Paul Okon-Engstler - who featured prominently for the Socceroos at the 2026 FIFA World Cup - on a four-year deal until 30 June 2030.
Born in Oostende, Belgium, the cultured midfielder made the move from Australia to the Club Brugge academy at the age of 14. After catching the eye at Brugge, he joined SL Benfica's under-19 team.
He featured for Benfica's reserve side and in the UEFA Youth League, before returning to Australia and Sydney FC last season.
Okon-Engstler made 27 appearances in the A-League, as well as starting for the Socceroos in three World Cup games.
“FC is a club with a huge history, with incredible fans and stadium," Okon-Engstler said. "I can’t wait to play there and finally get on the pitch with the team. For me, it’s exactly the right step in my career.”
