Peixoto says Wolves home form must improve
Cesar Peixoto conceded his Wolves team need to earn more wins at home after his team squandered a lead to draw 1-1 with Portsmouth at Molineux.
In a game lacking quality in the final third, half-time substitute Jordan James put Wolves ahead in the 62nd minute when he fired his shot in at Nicolas Schmid's near post.
Wolves looked set for their first home league win since 20 September, but Portsmouth snatched a point four minutes from time through Terry Devlin, who brilliantly volleyed home.
A win would have lifted Peixoto's side up to fifth in the Championship table and above rivals West Brom, but they now sit seventh and five adrift of leaders Swansea City.
The result was a reoccurring theme for Wolves at Molineux since dropping to the second tier. They have managed just two home wins from five so far in 2026-2027 and Peixoto said that had to change if they are to challenge for promotion this season.
"It's disappointing to get only one point. We need more victories at home," he said. "In the first half we have to do much more. We didn't attack the spaces. But we made two substitutes for the second half.
"We were the better team all game, but we only scored one goal, we did not get a second goal, and then we defended too deep in the last few minutes.
"I hope Adam Armstrong is fit for Saturday. Kieran Trippier felt something and I hope it is only a little injury. When we have injuries, we need to find solutions."
One positive was that Wolves did not lose successive home games in the Championship for the first time since February 2017, having lost to Bolton Wanderers 3-1 at Molineux in their last such fixture, though there was not much to get excited about here.
Portsmouth extended its unbeaten league run against Wolves to seven matches since a 3-2 defeat in January 2002.
Pompey have not lost in their last three Championship outings, having played the likes of Sheffield United and Norwich City during that run.
They moved up into 15th in the standings, and Portsmouth boss John Mousinho applauded his players for the start they have made to their campaign.
"We've played four top sides in 10 days, and with the injuries we have, then it's a great point. 15 points from the first 11 games? I'll take that," Mousinho said. "If you add in the fact that we were a goal down under immense pressure, then it's a brilliant result.
"Wolves' goal was a kick in the teeth, but Terry Devlin has shown us time and time again over the last few years what can happen when the ball falls to him."
