Tuchel underwhelmed by 'silent' Wembley crowd during Wales friendly
Despite thrashing Wales 3-0 in a friendly, England boss Thomas Tuchel was left wanting more from the home support inside Wembley Stadium.
England boss Thomas Tuchel took aim at the "silent" home support inside Wembley Stadium during their 3-0 victory over Wales in an international friendly on Thursday.
England scored three goals inside the opening 20 minutes of a match for the first time since November 1987 against Yugoslavia, with Morgan Rogers getting them off the mark.
Indeed, Rogers' opener, timed at two minutes and 12 seconds, was England's earliest goal since Luke Shaw netted in the second minute against Italy in the Euro 2020 final.
Ollie Watkins then doubled the Three Lions' lead before Arsenal star Bukayo Saka sent a stunning effort into the top-left corner to conclude the scoring for the hosts.
Yet Tuchel, who became the third manager to win as many as six of his first seven games in charge of England after Glenn Hoddle (1996-1997) and Sven-Goran Eriksson (2001 - both also six), was left wanting more from the home crowd.
"We did very, very well. We had an excellent first half, we were 3-0 up very quickly, but it could have been four or five," Tuchel told ITV.
"Then we couldn't score the fourth one or the fifth one and the stadium was silent. Silent!
"We never got any energy back from the fans and I think the players delivered a lot to get more from the fans.
"It was difficult to keep everything going in the second half, but we did excellent and deserved to win. A step in the right direction."
Asked if he expected more from Wembley, Tuchel responded: "Yeah, what more can you give in 20 minutes? Three goals, the way we attacked Wales and didn't let them escape."
Tuchel's only blemish during his tenure with England came in a friendly against Senegal in June, with his philosophy slowing being integrated into his new team.
And that has been on show in their last two games, with their win over Wales coming after they thrashed Serbia 5-0 away from home in a World Cup qualifier last month.
Speaking later in his post-match news conference, Tuchel added: "I love English football and I love English football fans and the support they give.
"But I think the atmosphere did not match the performance on the field.
"We had excellent support in Serbia, but [here] we were 3-0 up after 20 minutes, we had ball win after ball win after ball win, and I felt like, why is the roof still on the stadium?
"That's just it, it's nothing big. We will do everything again to be infectious. There's no problem. I'm sure we will get everyone going – it is on us.
"But tonight I was a little underwhelmed."
