Athletic slips to fourth after Leganes stalemate
Athletic Club was left frustrated but ultimately somewhat lucky to escape its home LaLiga clash with Leganes with a point after the visitors hit the woodwork twice in a frustrating stalemate.
Atheltic fired off 29 shots to Leganes's five, but had only one more on target from that tally and slipped to fourth on the table after Barcelona hammered Valencia 7-1 later in the day.
Leganes, which has already beaten Atletico Madrid and Barcelona this season, proved as tough an opponent at San Marmes as Ernesto Valverde's Athletic struggled to get hold of the match.
But it wasn't all bad news for Valverde's men.
Second-placed Atleti and fifth-placed Villarreal also dropped points as they played out a 1-1 draw, and sixth-placed Mallorca fared even worse, losing 1-0 to Real Betis, Athletic Club's next opponent in LaLiga.
