Madrid lives to fight another day after late win
Real Madrid scored in the fifth minute of stoppage-time to secure a dramatic late come-from-behind victory over Real Mallorca, the 2-1 scoreline denying Barcelona from celebrating the LaLiga title early.
In its first game since boss Carlo Ancelotti confirmed he will leave to take charge of the Brazil national team at the end of the season, Madrid needed a victory to avoid handing Barca the title without its rival kicking a ball.
Mallorca took a shock lead in the 11th minute, an angled strike from the right side of the box by defender Martin Valjent stunned Madrid at a half-empty Santiago Bernabeu.
Madrid immediately began to lay siege to Mallorca's goal, with visiting goalkeeper Leo Roman denying Jude Bellingham and Luka Modric at full stretch before half-time.
Mallorca held its advantage under enormous pressure until the 68th minute, when a piece of Kylian Mbappe magic secured a vital equaliser for the hosts.
Mallorca almost went back in front immediately from the restart, but Thibaut Courtois pulled off a magnificent one-on-one save to deny Mateu Morey.
Try as the might, Los Blancos couldn't punch through the defence thereafrer, Mbappe having a shot cleared off the line with the goalkeeper stranded and Arda Guler twice going close with powerful efforts.
But on 95 minutes, the mounting pressure told. Madrid took its 26th corner, with Courtois up from the back, and while the initial delivery was cleared, a looping ball back in fell at the feet of Jacobo Ramon, who lifted it into the back of the net to send Santiago Bernabeu wild.
Madrid is now back within four points of Barca with just six to play for, with the Blaugrana only requiring one win from three matches to reclaim the crown.
