Late penalty boosts Brighton's European hopes
Joao Pedro’s 98th-minute penalty earned Brighton and Hove Albion its first Premier League win over Fulham as the Seagulls' 2-1 victory moved them within one point of the top four.
Raul Jimenez gave Fulham the lead just after the half-hour mark when he fired home from close range after bringing down an inviting Alex Iwobi cross.
But Brighton responded well, levelling within six minutes through Jan Paul van Hecke.
Yasin Ayari's floated cross from a set-piece found the defender unmarked, and he guided his header out of Bernd Leno's reach and in off the far post.
Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra both had second-half goals disallowed for offside as Brighton went in search of a second goal, and its winner arrived deep into stoppage-time.
Harrison Reed clipped Joao Pedro in the area, and after a video assistant referee (VAR) review confirmed Samuel Barrott's on-field decision to award the penalty, the Brazilian picked himself up to convert the kick with confidence.
It remains incredibly congested in the top half of the table as Brighton moved up to sixth, level on points with Chelsea and just one adrift of Manchester City in fourth.
Fulham, meanwhile, stays in ninth, one point behind eighth-placed Bournemouth and four adrift of Brighton.
