Walker asks to leave Manchester City
Clubs in Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer (MLS) are reportedly keen on Kyle Walker after Pep Guardiola confirmed his captain has submitted a transfer request at Manchester City.
Walker was left out of City's squad for its 8-0 thrashing of Salford City in the third round of the FA Cup, with youngsters Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and Nico O'Reilly starting at centre-back while Matheus Nunes played at right wing-back.
The 34-year-old has endured a difficult season and has attracted plenty of criticism as City's Premier League title defence has crumbled.
Walker has seen his playing time reduced in 2024-2025, making just nine starts in 15 Premier League appearances, with Rico Lewis preferred at right-back in recent weeks.
Walker, who is under contract until the end of 2025-2026, was close to joining Bayern Munich in 2023 but ultimately committed his future to City.
However, rumours have continued to swirl regarding his future, with AC Milan, along with clubs in the Saudi Pro League and MLS, reportedly keen on the veteran England international.
Asked about Walker's absence after the FA Cup game, Guardiola said: "Two days ago, Kyle asked to explore the options to play abroad and end his career, and for that reason, I preferred playing other players.
"He asked two years ago after the treble, Bayern Munich wanted him, but the offer was not good enough.
"In his mind, he would like to explore it, to go to another country to play the last years, for many reasons. For that reason, I prefer playing other players whose minds are here."
Walker has won 17 trophies, including six Premier League crowns and the UEFA Champions League, since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017.
Guardiola paid tribute to his legacy at City.
"We cannot understand the success we've had these years without Kyle. It's impossible," the coach said.
"Having a right-back like him gave us something that we didn't have, and he has been amazing. But he said he wanted, in mind and heart, to explore it.
"I respect him a lot because I'm more than grateful since he has been many years for us. He's been important for the national team and important for our team."
