Elliott rubbishes Liverpool exit rumours
Harvey Elliott insisted he has no intentions of leaving Liverpool in the January transfer window after netting the winner in its UEFA Champions League clash against Lille.
Mohamed Salah's opener had been cancelled out by Jonathan David's strike just three minutes after Lille saw Aissa Mandi sent off for a second yellow card.
But Elliott, who replaced Curtis Jones for the second half, popped up with his first UEFA Champions League goal at Anfield after his effort deflected off Ngal'ayel Mukau and in.
As he wheeled away to celebrate, Elliott made a talking gesture with his hand before he made a cutting movement across his throat.
The 21-year-old has been reportedly linked with a move to Brighton and Hove Albion and Borussia Dortmund, but Elliott confirmed he has no desire to leave Anfield and revealed his celebration was intended to demonstrate that.
"It is pretty clear to be honest – I am not leaving. This is my team and my club. I'm a massive fan, and we're in a great position so far this season," Elliott said.
"I haven't really seen the chat, but my friends have messaged me and called me about a few things.
"It is always going to happen in January, especially after being out for a long time and not playing as much as I want to, but that is football.
Courtesy of Elliott's strike, Liverpool has had a goal scored by a substitute in four successive games in all competitions for the first time since between November and December 2007.
Despite the fierce competition for places in Liverpool's starting line-up, Elliott confirmed he'd spoken with Slot regarding his lack of minutes, but knows when his chance comes, he must take it with both hands.
"I've had conversations with the gaffer but at the same time I need to understand the situation. The team is flying – we are first in the Premier League and [UEFA] Champions League.
"For me to go in and say I should be starting it would be silly of myself really. You know what the answer is going to be.
"I need to stay patient and when I am getting opportunities, however long it is, just enjoy the moment, especially after being injured for three months at the start of the season.
"I just want to enjoy my football and when a chance comes I need to show the gaffer that if I am needed I am ready."
