Howe thrilled by Newcastle 'finding different ways to win' against Wolves
Eddie Howe praised the adaptability of his Newcastle United side, as they secured a 3-0 Premier League win over Wolves.
Eddie Howe was full of praise for the flexibility of his Newcastle United side, as they secured a sixth successive Premier League win with a dominant 3-0 home victory over Wolves.
Alexander Isak struck twice at St James' Park as he became just the fourth different player to score in eight straight Premier League matches.
Anthony Gordon was also on target for Howe's in-form Magpies, who equalled a club record of nine successive victories across all competitions, while climbing to fourth in the table.
The hosts were forced to be patient on the night, as Wolves set up a narrow three-man defensive unit, designed to nullify Isak and Gordon in open play.
However, the potency of Newcastle's attack was too much for their relegation-battling visitors and that ability to change their approach was hailed as crucial by Howe.
"We had to be patient, and we had to play a different way... slightly," he said.
"We had a lot of the ball in the first half, we knew Wolves would be stubborn opponents. We got a lucky break with the first goal, but overall I think we deserved it.
"Depending on how the game pans out, you need different ways to win. The first goal was so important today, but we had a few scares. It's nine wins in a row now for us across all competitions, but we know we can play better than today."
In contrast to Howe's free-scoring Newcastle, Vitor Pereira saw his Wolves side fail to score for the second Premier League game in a row, after losing 3-0 at home to Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest on January 6.
The Portuguese coach, who replaced Gary O'Neil last month, has a real job on his hands to haul Wolves away from relegation danger, but he admitted a lack of cutting edge cost his team on Tyneside.
"For a team like us creating six or seven chances to score, but we didn't score, this is the frustration we feel. But, I'm proud of my players, they tried everything," he said.
"We tried everything, we scored a goal, it was cancelled. We had more chances, but this is football."
