Newcastle bolsters midfield with addition of Steur
Newcastle United has been busy in the transfer window so far, announcing its third signing of the window in Sean Steur from Ajax.
The Dutch midfielder has signed a five-year deal at the Magpies, and is their third signing ahead of the 2026-2027 season after the arrivals of Ewen Jaouen and Bazoumana Toure.
The 18-year-old broke into the Ajax first team last season and made 19 appearances, scoring and assisting once as it finished fifth in the Eredivisie.
"It’s an incredible feeling to be here. It’s a giant club in the Premier League and it was always my dream to play in the best league in the world, so this is really exciting," Steur said.
"I was at home at Ajax – I joined when I was seven and I leave with only good memories, but when a club like Newcastle comes for you, it’s really hard to say no. The last few days have gone fast and I’m very happy to join.
"I’m a player who likes to get on the ball and play forward all the time. I’m happy playing between the lines and I feel I have a lot of energy in my game. I just want to win."
Newcastle has a difficult start to the 2026-2027 Premier League season, hosting Liverpool in its opener on 24 August (AEST) before fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth.
Steur could prove to be a crucial addition to the Magpies' midfield, with Sandro Tonali joining Spurs earlier in the window and Bruno Guimaraes reportedly seeking a move to Arsenal.
