Robertson: Liverpool performances still have to be better
Liverpool will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run to 12 matches when they host Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.
Andy Robertson believes Liverpool still need to produce better performances despite their current unbeaten run.
The Reds' 4-1 win over Barnsley in the FA Cup on Monday extended their unbeaten streak to 11 matches in all competitions, though five of those games ended in a draw.
Arne Slot's side drew with promoted sides Leeds United (twice) and Sunderland in that run, but they also won away to Inter in the Champions League and took a point off Premier League leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Although Robertson was glad to see Liverpool halt their poor run of form from earlier in the season, the defender insisted there is still plenty of room for improvement.
"I think some of the performances still have to be better," said Robertson.
"Within that, obviously, you've got [moments where] you throw it away, you've got a draw against Leeds at home, a draw against Sunderland at home – games that you are probably expected to win.
"But within that as well, you've got a draw at the Emirates, you've got a win at the San Siro – games that weren't easy.
"Obviously, 11 unbeaten is good. We kind of stopped the bad form, which is always pleasing.
"But we need to still lift our levels of performance, I think everyone knows that, and that's what we're working towards."
Burnley, meanwhile, picked up their first win in all competitions since October when they thrashed Millwall 5-1 in the FA Cup.
Clarets boss Scott Parker is hopeful that their cup victory will spur them on to win more points in the league, where they are currently eight points adrift of safety in 19th.
£Obviously, we've been searching for a win for some time now, and you're coming into an FA Cup game where you're trying to get that off your back a little bit – so that was key," said Parker.
"Now, of course, there's levels, and we understand that. Over the course of the last 12/13 games, there's been certain parts where I feel we were worthy of more than we got. There have been other parts where that has not been the case.
"We'll take the positives; we'll take the learnings from it, and I'm hoping that this young group can have some confidence from this game because it was a positive one.
"I could see that in their faces; I could see that in their demeanour and the way they played."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Liverpool – Florian Wirtz
Of players with at least 50 take-ons attempted in the Premier League this season, Liverpool's Wirtz has the highest success rate (54% – 27/50), while he is one of only five players to have created 30+ chances from open play in 2025-26 (31).
The Germany international also scored and assisted off the bench in their FA Cup win against Barnsley.
Burnley – Florentino
Only Joao Palhinha (91), Neco Williams (85) and James Garner (85) have made more tackles and interceptions combined in the Premier League this season than Burnley's Florentino (84 – 61 tackles, 23 interceptions).
MATCH PREDICTION – LIVERPOOL WIN
Burnley have lost their last six Premier League games against Liverpool by an aggregate score of 12-1, since a 1-0 win at Anfield in January 2021.
And the Clarets have scored just 11 goals in 19 Premier League games against the Reds (0.6 per game), only averaging fewer against Arsenal among sides they have faced more than twice (0.5, nine goals in 19 games).
Burnley remain winless in their last 12 league matches (D3 L9), last going longer without a league victory from December 2006 to March 2007 in the Championship (18), and last doing so in the top-flight from August to October 1970 (14) – the 13th game of which was a 2-0 defeat away to Liverpool.
However, Liverpool have drawn 1-1 with Sunderland and 0-0 with Leeds at Anfield this season, but have not failed to win three successive home league games against promoted sides since January 2002.
Indeed, the Reds last won none of their three home games against promoted sides in a league season in 1980-81.
Liverpool are averaging 14.7 shots per game in the Premier League this season, their lowest since 2001-02 (14.5), while their expected goals per game of 1.5 is their lowest in the league since 2015-16 (1.33).
