Strong second half lifts Inter past Atalanta
Second half goals to Carlos Augusto and Lautaro Martinez propelled Inter to a 2-0 win over Atalanta in their top-of-the-table Serie A clash.
Both teams finished the encounter with 10 men after Ederson and Alessandro Bastoni saw red late on, but Simone Inzaghi's side was worthy winner in the contest.
The result saw Inter capitalise on Napoli's goalless draw with lowly Venezia earlier in the day, while Atalanta is left six points adrift of the league leader.
Both sides pressed for the opening goal in the first half, with Inter's Marcus Thuram striking the crossbar before Atalanta's Mario Pasalic forced Yann Sommer into a save.
But it was Inter which edged ahead nine minutes after the restart when Carlos Augusto planted Hakan Calhanoglu's inviting corner with a fine header into the net.
Ederson was then shown two quick bookings in the 81st minute for a show of dissent towards referee Davide Massa, with Inter making their man advantage count swiftly.
Lautaro Martinez gathered Nicolo Barella's ball into the box before rifling a fierce shot across Marco Carnesecchi and into the bottom left corner to seal the win.
Inter, however, would also end the game with a man less after Bastoni needlessly hauled down Daniel Maldini, despite having been cautioned in the 79th minute.
