Volpato assist helps Sassuolo salvage draw
Australian-born Cristian Volpato grabbed a stoppage time assist to help Sassuolo to a 2-2 draw against Pisa, moving the Neroverdi to ninth on the congested Serie A ladder.
Entering the field to replace Nemanja Matic in the 87th minute, the 22 year-old former Western Sydney Wanderers youth product offered a timely reminder of his quality, whipping in a delightful cross for Norwegian midfielder Kristian Thorstvedt to nod home the equalising goal.
As speculation continues to swirl about who Volpato - capped by Italy at junior levels - will play his senior international football for, the midfielder's star continues to rise in the Italian top flight.
