Amorim predicts home pressure for Manchester United
Ruben Amorim knows Manchester United will be under pressure to perform at Old Trafford in the second leg of its Europa League last-16 tie against Real Sociedad.
United was perhaps unfortunate only to earn a 1-1 draw in the away leg but will have the opportunity to complete the job on home soil next week.
However, Amorim has repeatedly spoken of United's struggles in front of their Old Trafford crowd in what has been an incredibly difficult season.
Although the Red Devils are the only remaining unbeaten team in the Europa League, they have lost seven home matches in other competitions this term, while also exiting the FA Cup on penalties to Fulham in their previous match.
Despite this frailty, Amorim recognises the expectation United will have to deal with against La Real.
"We take this stage to Old Trafford," he said. "It's going to be a different game.
"The pressure is going to be on us in that stadium, and we have to be ready. The key will be surviving physically on Sunday [against Arsenal] and arriving fresh and ready on Thursday."
Amorim said his side was "really, really tired" in the closing stages of the first leg.
United had been in control through Joshua Zirkzee's goal, but it lacked rhythm after Mikel Oyarzabal levelled from the penalty spot.
It was only the second goal that Zirkzee had scored for United away from Old Trafford after netting at Tottenham in December.
"The momentum changed [after the equaliser], but it was clearly fatigue," Amorim said.
United is undefeated in its last nine games in the Europa League with its last longest unbeaten streak coming between September 2022 and April 2023 when it went 10 games without a defeat.
