Benfica buries AC Milan at San Siro
Benfica beat AC Milan for the first time in a competitive clash after it claimed a 2-0 win at San Siro.
Jakub Kaminski assisted Dodi Lukebakio's opener before getting on the scoresheet himself after the break to secure a winning start to Benfica's 2026-2027 Europa League campaign.
Lukebakio forced Mike Maignan into a simple save in the 15th minute, but he managed to get the better of the Milan goalkeeper just 66 seconds later after cutting in from the right wing and curling into the bottom-right corner.
Heorhiy Sudakov hit the woodwork soon after, pouncing on a poor pass from Ardon Jashari, while Anatoliy Trubin was alert at the other end to palm away a stinging drive from Yunus Musha.
Ruben Amorim introduced Christian Pulisic at the break and Milan made a strong start to the second half, with Koni De Winter slicing a good chance wide of the right post.
But Benfica scored against the run of play in the 52nd minute as Kaminski turned in from Souffian El Karouani's drilled cross.
Pulisic saw a first-time effort parried to safety by Trubin as the Rossoneri also introduced Diego Moreira and Adrien Rabiot in search of an unlikely comeback, though the latter could not test the goalkeeper with his header from Pulisic's free-kick.
