Djokovic earns statement win over Tsitsipas to reach Wimbledon third round
Novak Djokovic turned back the years to earn a big win over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round at All England Club.
Novak Djokovic is through to the third round of Wimbledon for the 20th time after he turned on the style to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets.
It was Djokovic's 13th win over the Greek, and this one represented a statement as he clinched a 6-3 6-4 6-2 victory in just one hour and 38 minutes on Centre Court.
This was the pair's first meeting on grass, and Djokovic found an early advantage, getting a break in the fourth game before holding off three break points in the one that followed.
The Serb confidently saw out the first set, but it was in the second that he truly rolled back the years, as he won 100% of points behind his first serve and made just one unforced error.
Djokovic dropped just three points on serve in that set and got the vital break in the ninth game, before putting himself on the brink of victory.
Tsitsipas matched the seventh seed early in the third set, but after taking a 2-1 lead, Djokovic reeled off five straight games, holding off two break points in the last before converting match point.
And Felix Auger-Aliassime will be joining him in the third round after battling past Dino Prizmic 7-6 (7-2) 6-3 7-5 in just over two and a half hours.
Joao Fonseca's Wimbledon campaign will also continue after he found a way past Jesper de Jong 6-1 7-5 6-4.
Djokovic serves up a treat
Djokovic is chasing a record 25th major title, and if he is to finally get his hands on it, then recreating this type of performance will be high on his priority list.
He did not drop serve once in this contest, saving all five of the break points that he faced. He also won a wonderful 88% of points behind his first serve.
Djokovic (104) now only needs one more victory to equal Roger Federer (105) for the most men's singles match wins at Wimbledon of any player in the Open Era.
And he will aim to draw level with his old foe against Arthur Rinderknech in the next round, having never before come up against the Frenchman.
