Tayloir Fritz was sent packing from the Italian Open after American countryman Marcos Giron stunned the No.4 seed with a 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-3) victory.

Giron reached the third round at a clay-court ATP Masters 1000 event for only the second time in his career as a result of the victory, adding to his Rome 2022 success.
Fritz looked to be back on track in the second set, racing out ot a 4-0 loead, but Giron roared back with some measured court craft to frustrate his higher-ranked opponent, sealing an astonishing victory in one hour, 45 minutes.
