Spain defeat Austria 3-0 to reach World Cup last 16
Spain booked their place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Austria on Thursday.
Mikel Oyarzabal starred with a brace, scoring in each half, while Pedro Porro added a second-half header as La Roja produced their most complete performance of the tournament.
Spain, who began their campaign with a goalless draw against Cape Verde, have steadily gathered momentum and were in complete control throughout, restricting Austria to without a shot on target.
Oyarzabal opened the scoring in the 36th minute before Porro doubled Spain's advantage with a header from Álex Baena's cross in the 66th minute. The Real Sociedad forward completed the scoring in the closing stages, finishing coolly from Marc Cucurella's cross to seal his fourth goal of the tournament.
Luis de la Fuente's side are still yet to concede a goal at this tournament. Spain will now face either Portugal or Croatia in the Round of 16 on Monday.
