The summer so far…
It took a while for the club and fans to come down from that playoff win at Wembley, but the real work begins for Luton Town as they plot to survive in the Premier League at the first time of asking. Much will be made of the away end and the cramped confines of Kenilworth Road, but that will be perfect for the Hatters’ who have relished upsetting the odds in the last ten years. In Rob Edwards, they have a coach who stayed true to the principles of old boss Nathan Jones and that blueprint served Luton well in gaining promotion.
To date, seven players have been signed mainly from the Championship including talents Mads Andersen at centre-back and Republic of Ireland winger Chiedozie Ogbene. The arrival of Issa Kaboré from Manchester City could prove to be crucial. The Burkina Faso full-back was a breakout star of last year’s African Cup of Nations and after loan spells in France, it will be fascinating to see how the 22-year-old can handle the rigours of Premier League football.
Player to watch…
Carlton Morris was critical to how Luton thrived in the Championship last season. A sturdy presence in attack, the former Norwich striker scored 20 goals last season, but it was his overall play that gained him so many plaudits. From his work-rate, hold-up play and heading ability it was all needed for Luton to fight for every point in the Championship. At 27, Morris has his shot at the big-time and don’t be surprised if the attacker takes the opportunity with both hands.
