Preview: UEFA Champions League Final | LIVE on beIN SPORTS
Arsenal seek a first-ever UEFA Champions League title when they face reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain in a blockbuster final in Budapest on Saturday night.
For Arsenal, it is an opportunity to complete a remarkable journey under Mikel Arteta and lift the European Cup for the first time in the club's history. For PSG, it is a chance to cement their place among the continent's elite by becoming the first team outside of Real Madrid to successfully defend the Champions League title in the modern era.
The final at the Puskas Arena brings together two of Europe's standout teams this season, each built in the image of demanding, meticulous coaches who have transformed their clubs into genuine continental powers.
PSG arrive as reigning champions and slight favourites. Under Luis Enrique, the French giants have evolved into a far more complete team than the superstar-laden sides of the past. The departures of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe prompted many to question whether PSG's European ambitions would suffer. Instead, the Spanish coach used the opportunity to reshape the club's identity.
Since taking charge in 2023, Luis Enrique has constructed a cohesive, energetic and tactically flexible side that thrives on collective effort rather than individual brilliance. After reaching the semi-finals in his first season, PSG went one step further last year, eliminating Arsenal before overwhelming Inter Milan in the final to secure the club's long-awaited first European crown.
Now they are chasing history.
With 44 goals, PSG are the competition's leading scorers this season. Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele has spearheaded the attack and is expected to overcome a minor calf issue in time for the final. Alongside him, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue have provided creativity, pace and unpredictability, making PSG one of the most dangerous attacking teams in Europe.
Their thrilling semi-final victory over Bayern Munich, won 6-5 on aggregate, demonstrated both their firepower and resilience under pressure.
Yet Arsenal have spent the season proving they can stand up to anyone.
Arteta's project has been years in the making. Since arriving in North London in 2019, the former Arsenal captain has patiently rebuilt the club, transforming a struggling side into Premier League champions and European contenders.
After three consecutive second-place finishes in England, the Gunners finally reclaimed the Premier League title this season, ending a 22-year wait and earning a return to the Champions League's biggest stage.
Their last appearance in a European Cup final came in 2006, when they suffered heartbreak against Barcelona in Paris. Twenty years later, a new generation has the opportunity to create history.
If PSG's strength lies in attack, Arsenal's has been built on defensive excellence. They have conceded just six goals throughout the competition and remain unbeaten heading into the final.
The centre-back partnership of Gabriel and William Saliba has formed one of Europe's most formidable defensive pairings, while Declan Rice has emerged as the heartbeat of the midfield. Bukayo Saka remains Arsenal's most explosive attacking threat, capable of changing a game in an instant, while the Gunners' set-piece prowess has become one of their most effective weapons.
Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry believes PSG's recent triumph gives them a psychological edge heading into the final.
"We're not at the level of those guys yet, so you've got to be humble," Henry said. "Paris Saint-Germain have the experience of knowing what it is to win it."
That experience could prove crucial in a match likely to be decided by fine margins. PSG have benefited from careful squad management throughout the campaign, with Luis Enrique regularly rotating his team and preserving key players for European nights. Arsenal, meanwhile, were forced to fight on multiple fronts deep into the season, demanding significantly more minutes from many of their stars.
Fitness could also play a role. PSG are optimistic that both Dembélé and right-back Achraf Hakimi will be available, while Arsenal continue to monitor defender Jurrien Timber, who is battling a groin issue.
Despite their contrasting styles, there is considerable mutual respect between the two managers. Luis Enrique has described Arsenal and Bayern Munich as among the strongest teams in Europe and expects a very different tactical challenge compared to previous rounds.
"We're talking about two great teams," he said. "We'll have to adapt to play and defend in a different way compared to how we usually do if we want to get the better of them."
For Arsenal, confidence is flowing after finally ending the wait for domestic glory. The Gunners will hope there are even bigger celebrations to come in Budapest. Standing in their way, however, is a PSG side determined to build a dynasty and prove their maiden Champions League triumph was only the beginning.
