Russell fastest in final Barcelona practice
George Russell topped the timesheets in Saturday's final practice session ahead of the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.
The Mercedes driver has looked competitive throughout the weekend, finishing fastest in two of the three practice sessions at Montmelo.
McLaren's Oscar Piastri was second, 0.214sec behind Russell, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc third and reigning world champion Lando Norris fourth in the other McLaren.
Lewis Hamilton was fifth, 0.702sec off Russell's pace, ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen in sixth and championship leader Kimi Antonelli in seventh.
Antonelli, who is seeking a sixth consecutive Grand Prix victory on Sunday, endured a frustrating session as traffic disrupted his qualifying simulations. The Italian was later placed under investigation for erratic driving following an incident involving Aston Martin's Lance Stroll.
"Why do I always get traffic? I don't understand," Antonelli complained over team radio.
The session began slowly, with Cadillac pair Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez among the first drivers to take to the track.
Several others emerged after 20 minutes, although Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari waited longer before starting their runs on another hot and sunny day in Barcelona.
Home fans were delighted to see veteran Fernando Alonso, who was cheered on from the grandstand bearing his name ahead of what he has suggested could be his final race at Montmelo.
Norris, who topped Friday's running ahead of Russell and Piastri, initially set the pace with a lap of 1min 16.609sec.
Russell responded with a time of 1min 16.258sec to move to the top of the standings, with Antonelli slotting into second, 0.242sec behind.
Hamilton struggled on his first flying lap and was almost nine tenths slower than Russell.
The session was briefly halted by a red flag after Bottas became stranded in the gravel at Turn 10 and reported a brake failure.
Russell later improved to 1min 15.679sec to secure top spot, although Friday's benchmark was not surpassed.
Isack Hadjar finished eighth, ahead of Audi's Nico Hulkenberg and Racing Bulls driver Arvid Lindblad.
Qualifying begins at 4pm local time (1400 GMT) on Saturday.
