Fritz left frustrated after U.S. Open exit as Cerundolo celebrates comeback
Taylor Fritz admitted he was struggling to process a stunning third-round U.S. Open loss to Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo.
"I wasn't serving as well as I normally do," Fritz told reporters, crediting Cerundolo's returning ability and saying the Argentine capitalized when his level dropped.
An emotional Fritz said he wanted time away from the spotlight after the defeat.
"I don't really want to talk to anybody, see anybody," he said. "I just need to get out for a couple days and get back to work."
Cerundolo, who reached the U.S. Open fourth round for the first time, said he was proud to rally from two sets down against one of the tournament's top contenders.
"Being able to come back from the match is fantastic for me," he said. "I'm super proud of myself."
