Musiala rescues late point for Bayern in Klassiker
A last-gasp header from Jamal Musiala ensured the points were shared in Der Klassiker as Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich came away from Borussia Dortmund with a 1-1 draw in another pulsating encounting.
Musiala nodded home as the visitors recycled a botched free-kick five minutes from time, but Bayern might feel it's two points dropped after dominating the majority of the game.
Vincent Kompany's side enjoyed 63 per cent possession and fired 13 shots to Dortmund's seven.
But some determined defending from the hosts, who remain unbeaten at home this season, made Bayern's pursuit of victory frustrating and ultimately fruitless.
It was Jamie Bynoe-Gittens that opened the scoring for Dortmund in the 27th minute, roaring down the left touchline before veering into the box to unleash a superb strike that sent the home fans wild.
Bayern suffered another blow six minutes later when top scorer Harry Kane, who scored a hat-trick against Augsburg last time out in the Bundesliga, limped off injured, but not as a result of a tackle.
Bayern turned up the heat in the second half and could have equalised on 49 minutes when Thomas Muller found himself in space for a shot, but Gregor Kobel pulled off a remarkable save to deny the German veteran.
Leroy Sane was guilty of inaccuracy just after the hour when he shot wide with just Kobel to beat, and it almost proved costly as Dortmund attacked again moments later, but Manuel Neuer produced a typically excellent save to deny Marcel Sabitzer.
Kingsley Coman had a chance to beat Kobel on 67 minutes, but directed his attempt straight at the Dortmund goalkeeper, and as the game entered its final 10 minutes, it seemed luck simply wasn't on Bayern's side.
But a free-kick on the edge of the box provided hope, and while Sane's attempt hit the wall, Michael Olise was able to gather the rebound and provide a pinpoint cross for Musiala to meet all alone, directing his header past Kobel for the equaliser.
Complaints followed as Dortmund thought the whistle should have blown for a head injury to Niklas Suele, who took full force of the free-kick from Sane in his face, but they fell on deaf ears and the goal was allowed to stand, ensuring the points were shared in another Klassiker to remember.
