Hollywood derby ends level after pulsating contest
Wrexham and Birmingham City couldn't be separated after their much-anticipated EFL League One clash lived up to all expectations but ended in a 1-1 draw at The Racecourse Ground.
Dubbed the Hollywood Derby because of the superstar owners behind both clubs, the match was also a chance for third-placed Wrexham to close the gap on league leader Birmingham to two points and draw level on 54 points with second-placed Wymcombe Wanderers.
Nine minutes in, that looked a distinct possibility when Ollie Rathbone fired a sumptuous right-foot shot from range that curled perfectly inside Ryan Allsop's left-hand post and nestled in the back of the net.
But less than 10 minutes later, the Blues were level after a dangerous corner found the head of Lyndon Dykes, whose effort eventually went in via the crowd inside the six-yard box on 18 minutes.
Both sides had their chances to win it, but the hosts were arguably the less fortunate to take all three points after creating numerous chances in the second half.
But Allsop stood firm as Wrexhma pushed for the win, making a number of excellent saves to deny Phil Parkinson's side and ensure the Blues left north Wales with a point to extend their lead at the top of the table.
