Arne Slot's Reds needed just one point from their final five games of the season after Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Thursday, and they wasted no time in making things official.

Dominic Solanke's 12th-minute header threatened to spoil the party on Merseyside, but any such concerns were swept aside in quick time as Liverpool responded brilliantly.

Luis Diaz tucked Dominik Szoboszlai's right-wing centre home to make it 1-1 in the 16th minute, with the goal initially disallowed for offside but given after a VAR check.

Liverpool was ahead eight minutes later as Alexis Mac Allister beat Guglielmo Vicario with a 20-yard blockbuster on his weaker left foot, after a ferocious press forced Spurs to give up possession near the corner of the box.

The title triumph was put beyond all doubt in the 34th minute, as Cody Gakpo found the bottom-left corner after Tottenham's abject failure to clear a set-piece. 

Liverpool should have had a fourth early in the second half when Gakpo looked to pass to Salah rather than finish past Vicario, but the brilliant Egyptian got in on the act in the 63rd minute, steering a reverse shot into the bottom-right corner on the counter-attack.

The scoring was complete six minutes later as Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross was touched over the line by Destiny Udogie with Salah lurking behind him, capping a dream day for Liverpool.

The full-time whistle sparked memorable scenes as Liverpool stretched its lead at the summit to an unassailable 15 points with only 12 to play for.

Spurs, meanwhile, stay 16th after another demoralising loss, with a Europa League semi-final tie against Bodo/Glimt set to define their season.
