Belloumi rescues draw for Hull
Hull City preserved its unbeaten start at the MKM Stadium in the Premier League this season as Mohamed Belloumi came off the bench to earn a 2-2 draw against Everton.
Joe Gelhardt, who replaced Belloumi in Sergej Jakirovic's starting line-up, opened the scoring early in the second half with his first top-flight goal in over four years.
But Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall led Everton's comeback, scoring a 55th-minute equaliser before he teed up Thierno Barry to put the Toffees in front.
However, Hull hit back when substitutes Elliot Stroud and Belloumi combined, with the latter's left-footed strike proving too much for Jordan Pickford.
Everton started brightly, with Konstantinos Tzolakis tipping James Garner's early free-kick before Jack Grealish sent a tame effort into the arms of the Hull goalkeeper.
The visitor thought it had taken the lead in the 34th minute when Tzolakis's dropped Jarrad Branthwaite's cross. Harrison Armstrong's shot was cleared off the line, with Brennan Johnson blocking Ryan Giles' attempted clearance into the net, but the goal was ruled out for an offside against the Welshman.
Hull and Everton both had chances at the end of the first half, but just three minutes after the restart, the Tigers took the lead when Ainsley Maitland-Niles presented the ball to Sorba Thomas, who slipped in Gelhardt to dink home the opener.
Maitland-Niles quickly atoned for his error when his cross was headed in by Dewsbury-Hall, with Everton then going ahead through Barry, who curled past Tzolakis having missed an open goal minutes earlier.
But Hull clawed themselves level in the 74th minute when Stroud skipped past Maitland-Niles and Garner before pulling the ball back for Belloumi, who took a touch before generating enough power to beat Pickford.
Both Hull and Everton had made strong starts to their respective Premier League campaigns, and while a point is not a bad result for either side, both will feel they perhaps could have come away with a victory.
Everton's 10 shots during the first half were their most in an away match in the Premier League this season, but they once again failed to score in the first half of four consecutive top-flight games on the road for the first time since December 2024 under Sean Dyche.
And though they fell behind, David Moyes will be pleased by the response from one of his key players. Despite missing several chances, Barry netted in back-to-back Premier League games for the third time, and first since January last season.
But Everton was undone by Belloumi, who has now scored or assisted five of Hull's eight Premier League goals this season.
