Brentford hammers Saints to open away account
Brentford registered its first away win of the season as it hammered Southampton with a 5-0 victory at St Mary’s.
Kevin Schade gave the Bees an early lead with a confident finish after combining nicely with Mikkel Damsgaard.
Brentford's dominance looked to have counted for a second when Sepp van den Berg headed in, but it was disallowed for a foul in the build-up.
That did not deter Thomas Frank's side, though, and it doubled its advantage soon after with a brilliant finish from Bryan Mbeumo, before he netted a well-taken penalty.
Keane Lewis-Potter and Yoane Wissa then wrapped things up with goals in stoppage-time.
"I think that was very close to perfection", Frank said after the match.
"We gave nothing away throughout 90 minutes, defended extremely well and we create chance after chance after chance.
"It could easily have been more than five. I’m extremely proud of this performance.
"I don’t think people understand how difficult it is to go to a game like this and be as dominant as we were and get the job done in the way we did."
Frank also praised goal-scoring duo Mbeumo and Wissa, with the pair continuing its fine starts to the season with another impressive display.
"You just run a little bit harder, you’re looking a bit more for your good mate," Frank said of Mbeumo and Wissa's blossoming relationship on the pitch.
"They’ve got a very good relationship on and off the pitch and I think you see that with the goals today."
Ivan Juric, meanwhile, is still searching for his first win as Southampton boss, with the Croatian losing all three games since taking over from Russell Martin.
"We are angry. [I’m] disappointed with myself that I haven’t changed the situation in these two weeks. It was a really, really bad day," Juric said.
"After West Ham [United], I had good feelings, but today I saw too much difficulty.
"It was a total disaster.
"They were much better than us. I can only say sorry to our fans because they don’t deserve this.
"We now have more days for work, to understand the ways to play, what we can change to be better. It’s obvious that in some situations we are not ready."
