Rangers see progress after win over Kilmarnock
Danny Rohl believes Rangers took an important step forward with a 3-0 victory over Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership, but knows reinforcements are still required.
Having needed a last-gasp penalty from Nedim Bajrami to salvage a 2-2 draw at Dundee United in midweek, Rohl's side got back to winning ways at Rugby Park.
Bojan Miovski scored either side of half-time, finding the bottom-right corner with a toe-poked finish in the 33rd minute then wrong-footing goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi to make it 2-0 in the 54th minute.
Kilmarnock boss Stuart Kettlewell was sent to the stands for his reaction to a Jack Butland challenge on Bruce Anderson going unpunished, before Tottenham Hotspur loanee Mikey Moore killed the contest with a lobbed finish from a tight angle five minutes from time.
The result took Rangers within six points of Hearts and Celtic, which are level at the top of the table ahead of their head-to-head meeting on Monday (AEDT), leaving Rohl satisfied.
However, the German reiterated that January signings will be required if the Gers are to compete for silverware in the second half of the season.
"Today we were clinical, we took our chances unlike Wednesday. This is a good step," the former Sheffield Wednesday boss said.
"I'm always in conversation with [chairman] Andrew Cavenagh. We have a good relationship.
"We have been in the office almost every day together. We will talk again next week, but tonight we will enjoy the result.
"From the first minute tonight, I knew the fans were behind the team. We have to do this together.
"We have to develop our game management, but tonight it was a fantastic reaction and now we have five wins in seven, so this is a good step forward.
"We have to continue; everyone wants to win against us or take something from us. This is a tough league, so we have to put the work in."
Rohl's team visits Ferencvaros in the UEFA Europa League next week, with hopes of reaching the knockout stages already hanging by a thread after a return of just one point from five games.
It then welcomes Hibernian to Ibrox in the Premiership on 16 December (AEDT), with a potentially pivotal trip to Hearts six days later.
