Como cruises past Udinese and clear of danger
Como put in a solid performance at home to beat Udinese 4-1 and move clear of the Serie A drop zone in the process.
Cesc Fabregas' side went into the game knowing a victory would lift it away from the bottom three, and it didn't take long for it to set the tone, going ahead by two goals before half-time.
Assane Diao scored after just five minutes, sent clear in the box by a superb throughball from Gabriel Strefezza.
Strefezza then scored a goal of his own a minute before the break, bundling the ball home after Udinese failed to clear a corner.
But five minutes after the restart, Martin Payero sent panic through the Como camp when he pulled a goal back for the visitors.
Edoardo Goldaniga was then sent off for a second yellow card on 57 minutes, and suddenly those backing the hosts were fearing the worst.
However, a reckless foul from Udinese's Oumar Solet saw him booked for a second time and sent to the dressing room to even out the numebrs and make it 10 versus 10 again.
Como restored its two-goal lead on 78 minutes when Jaka Bijol put through his own net, and there was still time for one more when Nico Paz netted in the final minute of the 90.
Victory moved Como from 17th to 12th on the Serie A table, only four points behind Udinese, which occupies 10th spot.
