Juventus sinks Monza to boost Champions League hopes
Ten-man Juventus boosted its Champions League hopes with a 2-0 win over Monza at the Allianz Stadium.
First-half goals from Nico Gonzalez and Randal Kolo Muani lifted the Bianconeri above Bologna, who play Udinese on Monday, to fourth place in the Serie A table.
Igor Tudor's side broke the deadlock in the 11th minute, as Gonzalez superbly drilled home from 25 yards out.
Kolo Muani missed a glaring opportunity to double the lead, but made no mistake in the 33rd minute, taking Khephren Thuram's pass into his stride and slotting past Monza goalkeeper Stefano Turati.
However, Juve was reduced to 10 men in first-half stoppage time, with Kenan Yildiz shown a straight red card following a VAR review after catching Alessandro Bianco in the face with a stray arm.
Nevertheless, despite the numerical disadvantage, the hosts were barely troubled in the second half by Monza, who are now on the brink of relegation to Serie B.
