Retegui haunts former club with Atalanta winner
Mateo Retegui scored a late winner as Atalanta came from behind twice to beat Genoa 3-2 at Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris in Serie A.
Retegui notched the decisive goal in the 89th minute against his former club, bringing up his 25th Serie A strike of the season to all but claim the division's golden boot award.
Andrea Pinamonti handed Genoa the lead eight minutes before half-time when he rose highest to plant Aaron Martin's inviting delivery into the box past Rui Patricio.
Genoa thought it had entered the break two goals in front when Mattia Bani bundled the ball over the line, but the goal was ruled out by the video assitant referee (VAR) for handball against the defender.
Atalanta drew level two minutes after the restart when Ibrahim Sulemana chested the ball down and sent a stunning half-volley into the bottom-left corner.
Pinamonti, however, restored Genoa's lead in the 58th minute, pouncing on a defensive mistake between Marco Brescianini and Isak Hien before finishing at Patricio's near post.
Atalanta roared back to level the contest once again five minutes later when Daniel Maldini rounded off a free-flowing passing move with a fierce finish into the bottom corner.
Gian Piero Gasperini's side snatched all three points late on after Retegui tucked home Charles De Ketelaere's cross, but there was controversy surrounding the equaliser.
Koni De Winter had gone down injured, with Morten Thorsby not realising and played the ball back to his stricken defender, inadvertently playing De Ketelaere through.
