It’s Official: Fernando Alonso Returns in FP2 in Hungary After Injury
Aston Martin confirms on social media that Alonso will return in FP2 of the Hungarian Grand Prix after recovering from a back injury. Drugovich took his place in FP1.
Lower back injury forces Alonso to miss Free Practice 1
Fernando Alonso did not participate in Free Practice 1 of the Hungarian Grand Prix due to a muscle injury in his back, sustained after the previous race at Spa. Aston Martin made the decision to rest the driver to protect his recovery, as officially announced by the team on its official channels.
Now partially recovered and with the FIA's medical approval, Fernando returned to the car in the afternoon's FP2 session. Mike Krack himself confirmed that everything was planned to minimize the physical strain on the Asturian driver's back.
Official publication confirms Fernando's return
The confirmation came via social media, where Aston Martin posted a clear message:
This announcement dispelled any doubts raised by his absence on the track.
Promising performance despite injury
Fernando completed more than 20 laps at a good pace at the Hungaroring, finishing in the top 5. Although he continues to experience discomfort, his performance on the track was not compromised, which strengthens his chances for the rest of the weekend.
During FP1, Felipe Drugovich replaced Alonso, completing a technical program focused on the new aerodynamic parts of the AMR25. The Brazilian worked alongside Lance Stroll without disrupting the team's plans.
