Japan Rescues Unbeaten Streak Against Canada
Japan won an exciting extra-inning game against Canada to stay undefeated, with a final score of 7-6. Japan played well behind their starter Miyu Shimizu for five and a half innings, but allowed three runs in the sixth inning, sending the game to extras. In the eighth inning, Japan scored the winning run by capitalizing on five defensive errors by Canada. Reliever Mika Tai earned the victory.
Canada’s starter, Raine Padgham, allowed Japan to take an early lead, but her team failed to capitalize on offensive opportunities. In the fourth inning, Japan added another run with a double by Yuzuha Nakamura. Canada stayed competitive with solid defensive plays, including a standout catch by center fielder Sena Catterall.
In the sixth inning, Japan extended their lead to 3-0 with a squeeze bunt by Kae Iwami, but Canada tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with three runs, thanks to a two-RBI single by Zoe Hicks and a bases-loaded walk.
In the eighth inning, Japan scored four runs by taking advantage of Canada’s defensive errors. Akari Hoshikawa and Miwa Naraoka scored for Japan, and Kae Iwami and Haruna Tadano drove in additional runs. Canada responded with three runs in the bottom of the eighth but couldn’t tie the game.
Finally, Mika Tai secured the victory for Japan by striking out Lucie Anctil for the last out. Japan remained undefeated, while Canada’s five defensive errors cost them a potential historic victory.
