Al-Ittihad Trolls Cristiano Ronaldo Over His “Spy” Moment
The club seized on Ronaldo’s viral moment with Danilo to set social media ablaze.
Cristiano Ronaldo once again made headlines for something other than his goals, this time after a curious moment during the clash between Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr. Cameras caught the Portuguese star trying to read the tactical instructions Danilo Pereira had received from the bench. After the match, the Jeddah club took the opportunity to aim a brutal social media jab at CR7.
Al-Ittihad’s social media team didn’t let him off the hook
The incident occurred during the fifth round of the Saudi Pro League. Danilo, Al-Ittihad captain and Ronaldo's Portugal teammate, received a sheet containing tactical instructions. At that moment, the Al-Nassr forward approached and tried to sneak a look at what was written.
The image quickly went viral, and Al-Ittihad decided to have some fun with the moment. The club's official account posted a photo of Ronaldo alongside Danilo with the caption: “Cheating and still losing!”.
The post added even more spice to an already fiercely contested match. Ronaldo's gesture was seen as a funny and unusual moment, but the final score gave Al-Ittihad the perfect opportunity to have the last laugh.
The 41-year-old Portuguese star played all 90 minutes but could not prevent his team from suffering its first defeat of the Saudi Pro League season.
Al-Ittihad gets the likes — and the win
On the pitch, Al-Ittihad defeated Al-Nassr 2-1 thanks to a brilliant performance from George Ilenikhena. The Nigerian striker was decisive, scoring twice in the opening 22 minutes.
Ilenikhena opened the scoring in the 4th minute and struck again in the 22nd to make it 2-0. Ângelo Gabriel pulled one back for Al-Nassr in the 36th minute, cutting the deficit before halftime.
Although Cristiano Ronaldo's side had chances to find an equalizer after the break, Al-Ittihad held firm and secured all three points in front of 47,661 fans at Alinma Stadium in Jeddah.
The defeat marked Al-Nassr's first loss in the Saudi Pro League and left Ronaldo's team three points behind league leaders Al-Hilal.
