Musiala to Undergo Surgery for Fibula Fracture: Bayer Munich Confirms in Statement
Jamal Musiala, midfielder for Bayern Munich, will soon undergo surgery after suffering a serious injury to his left fibula during the Club World Cup quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain. The incident occurred just before halftime when goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma collided with him in a contested play for the ball.
Bayern Confirms the Severity of the Midfielder’s Injury
In an official statement, the Bavarian club confirmed that the 22-year-old German international — who had only just returned to action after several months out — flew from Orlando to Munich this morning and will undergo surgery shortly.
Medical tests revealed that Musiala suffered a fibula fracture in his left leg, as a result of an ankle dislocation sustained during the clash.
Sporting Director's Statement
Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, described the news as a heavy blow for everyone involved.
"This serious injury and the long absence are a real shock for Jamal and for all of us,” he said.
“Everyone knows how incredibly important Jamal is to our style of play and the central role he holds within the team. On a human level, this is extremely bitter — he had just come back from injury, and now he’ll be sidelined again for a long time. He’ll have everything he needs from us. We’ll support him fully and look forward to having him back on the pitch,” Eberl added.
Musiala Substituted After Collision
Musiala was replaced at halftime of the match, which ended in a 2–0 victory for Paris Saint-Germain, with goals from Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé in the second half.
A Painful Loss and an Uncertain Future
This injury is a major setback for Bayern Munich — not only because of the player’s talent, but also due to the timing. Unfortunately, it marks the second serious injury Musiala has suffered in a short span, raising concerns about his long-term future.
Only time and rehabilitation will tell whether he can return to the elite level that made him one of Europe’s most promising young stars.
