Barcelona Has Not Given Up on Julián Álvarez and Is Already Preparing Another Attempt to Sign Him From Atlético Madrid
Barcelona reportedly has not given up on the possibility of signing Julián Álvarez. The Catalan club is preparing a new approach and could try again to bring in the Argentine striker in January or ahead of the summer 2027 transfer window.
The summer transfer window has ended, but FC Barcelona’s interest in Julián Álvarez is far from over. The Argentine striker remained at Atlético Madrid after the Spanish club refused to negotiate his departure with one of their biggest LaLiga rivals.
For Barça, however, the end of the transfer window does not mean the end of the pursuit. Everything points to the Catalan club being willing to wait and revisit the move when circumstances are more favorable.
Unable to move forward with Álvarez, the club turned to Gabriel Jesus as an immediate solution for its attack. However, the Brazilian’s arrival reportedly has not changed the club’s view of the Atlético forward.
Barça Reportedly Saved Money With Julián in Mind
According to information reported by Santi Ovalle on Cadena SER, the Catalan side reportedly chose not to make a major investment in another striker and instead preserve that financial margin to make another attempt for the Argentine.
Barcelona is no longer thinking solely about addressing an immediate need but rather about building a much larger operation. According to the report, the intention is to make Julián a central piece of a long-term project.
The Catalan club appears prepared to wait while building greater financial flexibility and assessing how the situation develops in Madrid.
Atlético Madrid Keeps the Door Closed
Atlético Madrid remains firm and does not want to facilitate Julián Álvarez’s move to Barcelona. During the summer, the Madrid club’s stance made any agreement extremely difficult. Atlético did not appear willing to sit down and negotiate with Barça, while the striker ultimately remained in the Spanish capital.
Amid that situation, reports also emerged regarding enormous figures surrounding a potential deal. One report cited in Spain claimed that Barcelona had considered a figure of more than $150 million in an attempt to convince Atlético, although that proposal was reportedly never formally submitted.
Barcelona would also need Atlético Madrid to change its position and Julián himself to once again push for a departure. For now, the Argentine remains under the management of Diego Simeone as he looks to refocus on the pitch.

January Could Be the First Chapter of the Rematch
The upcoming winter transfer window could become the first opportunity for Barcelona to make another attempt to sign Julián Álvarez.
According to reports from SPORT, the Catalan club has not ruled out the possibility and could explore a move in January. The operation would remain complicated, however, because of Atlético’s stance and the enormous cost involved in signing the striker.
There is also an even more ambitious scenario: waiting until summer 2027 to launch a definitive assault.
That timeline could allow Barça to strengthen its finances, assess the available room to make such a major investment and enter negotiations with a stronger position. It would also give the club time to see how Julián’s relationship with the Atlético environment develops over the coming months.
